Now, I don’t think I’m being unfair when I say that, while the individual publisher conferences all hold their own degree of hype and merit among their peers, the big three (Microsoft, Sony, and Nintendo) are the actual main event every year. It’s one thing to hear from Ubisoft what you can expect from them in the years ahead, however, it’s hearing directly from the (horse’s) mouth what the manufacturers of these powerful plastic boxes have in store that holds the most weight for the majority of us.
For Microsoft, after a slightly rocky past few years at E3, they couldn’t have more to prove. Despite innovating in their own space with products like the Kinect and Hololens, it doesn’t seem to be enough for the mainstream public and press, who always seem to walk away championing Sony, who arguably has the “better” show each year. With rumored prospects like a slimmer Xbox, an even more powerful console sometime down the line in the form of Scorpio, and a strong lineup from publishers to round out their stable, will THIS be the year they turn the tide?
