Rolling out with today’s update, (1.71) Playstation Plus owners have two more reasons to be happy owning the service: Free games! PixelJunk Shooter Ultimate, and Trine 2:Complete Story are now available as part of the “Instant Game Collection”.
For the uninitited, PixelJunk Shooter: Ultimate is a combination of the first and second pixeljunk games, dual stick shooters with an unusually detailed liquid physics based twist.
Trine 2: Complete Story takes a generic pairing and does anything but with them: a Rogue (grappling, traversal), Wizard (platforming), and Knight (bashing and brute force) all join forces as one entity to take on environmental puzzles, alongwith screen filling bosses and co-op gameplay to boot.
Though it technically doesn’t count as part of the “Plus” update, 32-player dogfighting MMO War Thunder was also released on the third as a free-to play title, joining Warframe as yet another AA experience just being handed to Playstation users on a platter. Eat up, folks.
For PS3 stalwarts, the genre and competition-destroying NBA 2K14 is available for anyone even remotely curious about what it’s like to fill King James’ iconic shoes.
This all follows on the heels of an update that disabled two bugs related to putting the console in standby: the Dualshock 4’s vibration can now survive the standby process, and so can the uploading of cloud saves.
Though this is no new news for PS Plus owners to be getting free games, this does mark the first time since the service started that we’ve gotten two games at once on the PS4.
Now if only the Xbox One would–oh wait.
